Great to see so many players entering our FREE junior badminton tournament in Birmingham on 16th September 2018. We can still accept a few more, so if you are interested please complete the entry form and email it to us NOW|!
Players born in 2002 or later are eligible to enter this, provided that they were born in, or now live or go to school in Birmingham, West Midlands or Warwickshire. You do not need to be a county badminton player to enter - we are keen to encourage those who play at their school or in a local club to come and enjoy a day of competitive, friendly badminton.
The tournament will be mainly singles, for both boys and girls, though some doubles matches may be included also, depending on timing and the number of entries. Matches will be played in groups (boxes) initially, with the winners of groups then progressing to knock-out stages. Players can expect to play at least three matches (subject to entries). The tournament will be arranged as far as possible in Badminton England age groups and taking account of the experience of entrants, so that players have the opportunity to compete against players of comparable standard.
The tournament will be run in line with Badminton England Regulations, although grading wins/losses will not apply and ranking points will not be awarded. Shuttles will be provided, and players are expected to wear normal badminton clothing, including court shoes, and to bring their own rackets.
WSBA Birmingham cell players are encouraged to enter; Coventry cell players are not eligible to enter.
The Tournament Secretary will be Stephanie Cartwright-Randle, one of WSBA's coaches, and other WSBA coaches will be at the tournament. Selected players may be offered the opportunity to trial with WSBA's Birmingham cell.
The tournament will be held at the Doug Ellis Sports Centre, Birmingham City University, 150 Wellhead Lane, Perry Barr, Birmingham B42 2SY. There is ample parking at the venue, which is about 15 mins drive from the city centre and about 5 mins drive from Junction 6 of M6.
Entry to the tournament is free but participants must complete an entry form and return this by Monday 10th September 2018. Entries on the day will not be permitted. The entry form can be downloaded from this website, or obtained by emailing info@warwickshireschoolsbadminton.org.uk
Any queries should be emailed to the Tournament Secretary at info@warwickshireschoolsbadminton.org.uk
